About Us

The Tehama County Department of Social Services (TCDSS) has multiple assistance programs to provide families with cash aid (CalWORKs), Medi-Cal, Cal Fresh benefits (formerly food stamps), General Assistance, County Medical Services Program (CMSP), in addition to protecting our most vulnerable populations that include children, elderly, and disabled community members.

The Department is staffed by approximately 170 employees who promote the mission of the agency of “Partnering with our community to Assist, Empower, and Protect.” Offices are located in Corning and Red Bluff, in addition to contracting with multiple services providers throughout the county to implement both federal and state mandated programs.

But our most vital role is prevention and fostering self-sufficiency. We support an array of organizations that teach people how to avoid placing themselves at risk - and how to attain economic independence. This includes preventing child abuse and domestic violence, counseling for drug and alcohol problems, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and training for jobs that can break the cycle of poverty and enable people to support themselves and their families.
